"Perhaps your sentence is a random thought," IS A SENTENCE! Random thoughts can be sentences. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater does not lead to communication. Yes, you should start written sentences with capital letters and you should end them with periods. The more you know how to use punctuation, the more creative and interesting you can be with it. Variety is the spice of life, ignorance is gruel. I'm climbing back into my non-electronic resource books now - dictionary, thesarus, grammar... .

Dad and I use to have conversations about how language changes. He, at times, was a stick in the mud about word usage.

So, if language grows and changes shouldn't grammar? Do we really miss the second period between the end of one sentence and the start of the next? Do we really miss the comma at the end of a list - apples, oranges and grapes?

Yeah, I do...only because these were drilled into my brain and now I have to excise them.

Guess it really is a matter of understanding correct grammar and structure and then using those tools for the best writing...whether you break the rules or not :-)

Thanks for the info. As you know, my thoughts are all incomplete!

Writing this morning I find I am in love again with commas. Like an illness, I assume this too shall pass.

Thanks Ron - the best part about having an incomplete thought in print is that people keep reading. It's like a teaser.

I've done a bit of blogging so I see your point. When I have more time I want to read that piece about writing a book also.
